Yuri Kissin – Bass-baritone

 

Nominated in the category « Révélation lyrique de l’Année » at the Victoires de La Musique Classique Awards 2009, the french-israeli bass-baritone Yuri Kissin was recently heard at Danish National Opera and Smaland Musik Theater ( Sweden) as Don Magnifico from Rossini’s Cenerentola, as well as Moustache from Tistou les Pouces verts (Sauget) and Colline from La Boheme ( Puccini) at Opera de Rouen. In 1999 Yuri Kissin integrated the Paris Opera Studio. From then on, he was invited back to take part in many productions, such as War and Peace, Tosca, Parsifal, « K » by Philippe Manoury, Don Carlos, Boris Godounov, Evgeny Onegin, La Traviata, Capriccio, Ariadne auf Naxos, Lulu, Dialogues des Carmélites, Madame Butterfly, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Salomé, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ariane et Barbe Bleue, Rigoletto, Macbeth, Billy Bud, Francesca da Rimini, Gianni Schicchi, La Cerisaie, Khovantschina… He performed more then 300 times on the stage of Opera National de Paris.

In the past few seasons, besides his activities at the Paris Opera, he sang in Montpellier, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Toulon, Dijon, Limoges, Nancy, Nantes, Angers, Nice, Sédière, Théâtre des Champs Elysées( Paris ), Tel-Aviv, Moscow, Aix-en-Provence, Lacoste, Chartres and Antibes , Perm, Madrid, Maribor, Metz, Michailovsky Theater (St.Petersburg), Concertgebouw, Amsterdam,Opera de Monte Carlo…

His repertoire includes many Mozart’s roles, Leporello and Mazetto from Don Giovanni, Figaro and Bartolo from Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo and Don Alfonso from Cosi fan Tutte, Sprecher from Magic Flute. Classic belcanto and Buffo Italian roles, like Mustafa and Haly from Italiana in Algeri, Don Magnifico and Alidoro from La Cenerentola, Don Basilio and Don Bartolo from Barbiere di Siviglia ( Rossini). Dulcamara from Elisir d’amore and title role from Don Pasquale ( Donizetti) …
As well as German and French repertoire, like Escamillo and Zuniga from Carmen ( Bizet) , Pandolfe from Cendrillon ( Massenet), Daland from Fliegender Holländer ( Wagner ), Truffaldino from Ariadne auf Naxos ( Strauss) and many others…

In the concert field, he was heard, among others, with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Pierre Boulez (Janacek’s Messe Glagolitique), and with the Orchestre national de France (Chapochnikov’s Poisonned Garden).

During season 2015-2016, he could be heard, as Figaro from Nozze di Figaro in Compiegne, La Rochelle, Senart, Besancon, Amiens, Angouleme, Nimes, Clamart, Dunkerque, Le Mans, Quimper, Ales (France) et Vevey (Switzerland), Haly from Italiana in Alger in Massy Opera House High Priest of Baal from Nabucco in Opera de St Etienne, Frere Laurent from Romeo et Juliette at New Israeli Opera and Escamillo from Carmen with Haifa Symphony Orchestra.

During 2016-17 season Yuri Kissin sang Don Magnifico from La Cenerentola with Danish National Opera and later with Smaland Music theater ( Sweden), Moustache Tistou les pouces verts of Henri Sauget and Colline from La boheme in Opera de Rouen, as well as Alidoro ( Cenerentola) in Piccolo Festival Friuli Venezia Giulia ( Italy)

His future engagements include La rondine with Theatre Capitole de Toulouse, Der Sprecher in Magic Flute with Jerusalem Opera ( Israel), Colline from La Boheme with Opera Massy, Bartolo from Nozze di Figaro with Avignon Opera Theater and Hermann and Schlemilin Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Monte Carlo. He returns to perform in the Opera Champs Élysées for “Samson et Dalila” of Saint-Saens and Der Rosenkavalier of Strauss with Israel Philarmonic Orchestra.
